Supervised by the Ministry of Economic Development, Tamiz Shahar JSC (a state-owned enterprise tasked with managing Bakou’s waste) selected CNIM to design, build and operate the Bakou waste-to-energy centre for 20 years.

Built and operated using CNIM’s own funds, this plant is a first for Azerbaijan. As such, when choosing the CMMS software it was crucial to consider the local context, available skills and distance from the technical teams (based in France).

After the first CMMS implementation failed (Coswin), Crazylog was contacted to roll out a simple, flexible, cloud solution. The need to upskill the on-site teams during the start-up phase was not compatible with rolling out cumbersome, complex software at the same time. So the flexibility and simplicity of the Quickbrain CMMS were appealing and perfectly met the site’s needs.

Some background on the Bakou plant

The Bakou incineration plant in Azerbaijan was designed and financed by CNIM AZ, the engineering firm that is now tasked with operating the plant. An investment of €346 million was required to develop this incinerator. Driven by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2006, this project is part of a series of environmentally-focused measures taken by the government. This flagship project, covering 10 hectares, is one of the biggest facilities ever built in Azerbaijan. The plant was commissioned in 2012 and comprises two lines which can incinerate 500,000 tonnes of waste per year and produce 231 GWh of electricity annually.
